Crimean Tatar convicted for allegedly collaborating with Ukraine

The Supreme Court of Crimea has completed consideration of the court case against Charaz Akimov, who was accused of co-operating with a foreign state on a confidential basis. He was found guilty of passing information about military equipment via Telegram channel to the military intelligence of Ukraine. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The case was considered in two sessions. The verdict was announced by Judge Alla Khinevych, who last year was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison for treason by the Solomensky district court of Kyiv. This circumstance casts doubt on the objectivity of the court when considering cases related to the war in Ukraine.

Charaz Akimov lived in Yalta and last December the FSB Public Relations Centre issued a statement that they had detained him for alleged correspondence in Telegram about the movement of military equipment. In less than two months the case was investigated and brought to court.
