Asan Akhtemov
Asan Akhtemov is a Crimean Tatar political prisoner who was detained by Russian security forces in September 2021 after searches of several Crimean Tatars’ homes. He was accused of allegedly sabotaging a gas pipeline near Simferopol and trafficking in explosive devices.
During the “investigation,” Asan was subjected to physical and psychological pressure to obtain the testimony the occupiers needed. In September 2022, the occupation court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, and later an appeal toughened the conditions – he must spend the first three years in prison. Currently, Akhtemov is being held in the Vladimir Central Prison, where his eyesight and health are deteriorating due to the lack of proper conditions.
