In Sevastopol, a court handed down a verdict to a mother and daughter in two hearings

The Sevastopol City Court has sentenced two Sevastopol residents — a 42-year-old mother and her 24-year-old daughter. Both were found guilty of treason and sentenced to twelve years in prison, with restrictions on their movement for one year after release. The women were taken into custody in the courtroom.

The trial was held behind closed doors. Notably, the court hearing took place in the afternoon of July 22, and on the date set for the next session — August 5 — less than five hours after the hearing resumed, the verdict was already announced. The entire trial, including the time the judge spent in the deliberation room, lasted no more than nine working hours in total, which appears insufficient for a full examination of all case materials in a particularly serious criminal case.

The trial was presided over by Judge Daniil Zemlyukov — his first case involving charges of treason. This judge was assigned to Sevastopol immediately after the occupation from Barnaul, Russia, which grossly violates the requirements of international humanitarian law mandating that judicial bodies in occupied territories be composed solely of local residents.

It should be recalled that on October 3, 2024, it became known that two Sevastopol women had been detained and initially charged under the less severe Article 275.1 for transferring data on a confidential basis. In June of this year, it was reported that the case had reached the court already with charges of treason. According to the investigation, the young woman allegedly agreed to cooperate confidentially with the Ukrainian intelligence services in exchange for a reward, involving her mother in this activity. In September 2023, she handed over photographs taken by her mother of certain facilities to the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate.
