VLADYSLAV YESYPENKO
Vladyslav Yesypenko is a Ukrainian journalist and a freelancer for Krym.Realii (Radio Svoboda project). Since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea, Vladyslav condemned the actions of the occupation authorities, documenting all human rights violations on the peninsula, and also gave interviews to international media about the occupation. He was detained in the temporarily occupied Crimea on March 10, 2021, by employees of the federal security service of Russia in Crimea on charges of gathering information “in the interests of the special services of Ukraine”, as well as storing an “improvised explosive device” in his car. It should be noted that after the detention, the journalist was tortured with electric current, demanding testimony.
On February 16, 2022, the so-called “Simferopol District Court” sentenced Yesypenko to 6 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony and a fine of 110,000 Russian rubles.
On August 18, 2022, the Supreme Court of Crimea reduced Yesipenko’s sentence to 5 years in a general regime colony, and the fine amount remained unchanged.
